Hi! i am trying to learn japanese on my own. i lived in japan for 20 years as a teacher and came back to hawaii after my lovely grandchild was born.. Hiragana is the basic japanese phonetic script. it represents every sound in the japanese language. therefore, you can theoretically write everything in hiragana. however, because japanese is written with no spaces, this will create nearly indecipherable text.. Learn to write, type and read the japanese scripts hiragana and katakana with these recommended methods and resources. once you get into it, you might even start itching for japanese subtitles instead of english when you watch your japanese dramas !.
